18th October 2021
Thornham CC committee can confirm the appointment of two new captains for the 2022 GMCL season.
The First XI will see a new captain for 2022 as Andrew Micklethwaite has stepped down from the role after 2 seasons. His replacement will be Paddy McMahon who oversaw the T20 Thunder side in 2021. Paddy has plenty of experience with captaincy, and in 2011 led the 2nd XI to the Lancashire County League cup final.
New Captain Paddy McMahon said ‘I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the side for the 2022 season. After narrowly missing out on promotion last season I’m looking forward to us pushing on and trying to reach the Championship. We’ve got a great group of lads and hopefully, with a couple of additions, we’ll be able to celebrate the season with a trophy.’
The Second XI also see a new man at the helm as Lewis Hughes replaces Matthew Riley. The seconds will be hoping for better prospects in 2022 and will be looking to build on the 11th placed finish in Division 4.
Lewis Hughes added “I'm really excited to lead the seconds next season and I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'll be promoting teamwork, commitment and determination from all players old and new. I'll ensure fair opportunities throughout the season for experienced players and those looking to break into first team cricket.”
There is no change for the third XI as Matt Collinge remains in post; they will be hoping for better fortunes in 2022 as they look to bounce back from relegation.
Thornham CC committee would like to place on record thanks to both Andrew and Matthew for their efforts in 2021 and wish the new captains all the best for 2022.
